Even the tiniest scratch can really bug someone who takes pride in the appearance of their car, however, it’s so easy to pick up one of these nasty little scuffs. In some cases, where there is a deep scratch to the car and the risk of rust damage, you might need to take it into a garage. However, with the help of Chipex Touch Up Paint and our handy guide, you should be able to fix your scratch in no time.
Step One: Find your colour code
First things first, you’ll need to find the colour code for your car. You can do this by using the colour code finder on our website which guarantees a 100% colour match. This way you’ll be able to cover over the scuff seamlessly. If you’re struggling to find the information you need, use our guide to finding your car colour code to help you out.
Step Two: Make sure your car is clean
Having a dirty car will result in grit and grime being spread into the paintwork. At worst, this can cause even more scratch damage to the car and at best it will cause dirt to get trapped in the paint, giving an uneven finish. To avoid this, you can clean your car’s bodywork with a quality car shampoo that will clear the area before you apply paint.
Step Three: Apply the first layer of paint
Now the car is clean and dry, it’s time to apply the first layer of paint. You need to follow the instruction and start by shaking the bottle well and applying the first layer of paint with a chipex paint applicator brush. You can also use your thumb to smudge the paint in nicely and ensure even coverage over the scratch.
Step Four: Leave the paint to dry
Once the first layer of paint has been applied, it’s time to let the paint dry before applying a blending solution. Ideally, you should leave the paint to dry for up to five minutes before completing the next step. If the paint isn’t giving a full enough coverage, you may opt to add another layer.
Step Five: Apply the blending solution
Once the paint is touch dry, add a small quantity of blending solution to a cloth and use light pressure to remove the excess paint. The blending solution will ensure that the paint that covers the scratch matches the rest of the bodywork, giving a seamless finish,
Step Six: Polish with a microfibre cloth
Apply polish to your car with a cloth, and once the polish has dried into an opaque haze, use a microfiber cloth to polish the paint. This should fully cover the small scuff on your car and leave it gleaming.
