How to repair deep scratches on your car

Deep scratches on your car can be caused by anything from someone hitting their car door into you, to being hit by debris as you drive along. Often people want to do something about their deep scratch, but assume that fixing it will be too difficult and technical. 1. Clean your car

Before you start going for it with the touch up paint, make sure that your car is fully cleaned and ready to go. 2. Assess the scratch

Now you can properly see what you’re looking at, it’s time to assess how bad the scratch really is. 4. Start painting

First things first, put on the rubber gloves that come with the kit so that you don’t get any product on your hands. Shake the paint thoroughly to mix it up and use the Chipex paint applicator brush to apply the paint directly onto the scratch. You might want to smear the paint in using your finger too for more coverage. Leave the paint to dry for 30 seconds to 5+ minutes depending on the volume of paint applied and ambient temperature.

5. Apply the blending solution

Once the paint it fully dry, you can apply blending solution to a cloth and gently rub the scratched surface to blend it in and remove excess paint. Be careful with a deep scratch that you don’t rub too hard, or you might remove too much paint from the chip and leave it without full coverage.

6. Assess how deep the scratch is

After one layer of paint, take a look and assess whether you want to keep layering up. With a deep car scratch, you may need to repeat the process above multiple times to increase the build up of paint and fill in the scratch layer by layer.

7. Polish away

Now the hard work is done, it’s time to sit back, relax and polish away. Using the microfibre cloth, polish the whole panel to see the finished results.
